One of the biggest sporting events of the year is finally here: The AFL Grand Final! Nothing beats heading to the game in person, but the next best thing is to watch it on the big screen at Varsity. Grab your mates and come down to your local Varsity for the ultimate AFL experience with beer, burgers and banter – we promise it will almost feel like you’re at Optus Stadium!
As we get closer and closer to the big day on Saturday 25 September, we thought we’d better summarise the season so far, give a brief history on both teams and tell you how you can achieve the ultimate viewing experience.
What a season it’s been for AFL 2021 – tightly fought out with power and aggression, filled with both success and disappointment. This year’s Grand Final has been 67 years in the making, with the last premiership fought between the Bulldogs and Melbourne occurring in 1954 (the Bulldogs won 102 to 51). Hosted in Perth for the first time ever due to the COVID crisis over east, it’s a rare opportunity for us Western Australian’s to see the game live!
Both teams had very comprehensive wins in the preliminary finals, with the Bulldogs defeating Port Adelaide by 71 points and Melbourne sending Geelong crashing out of the finals by a substantial margin of 83 points! The Bulldogs’ finals campaign has been particularly impressive, as similarly to their 2016 campaign, they’ve made their run for the flag from outside the top four
