We’re eagerly awaiting the kick off of the ninth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup! Locked in for 20th July, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 is going to be a tournament of firsts with both Australia and New Zealand co-hosting. This will be the first time the FIFA Women’s World Cup will be hosted by a co-confederation – the Asia-Pacific region and the southern hemisphere. More the merrier we say!

Must-Watch UFC Fight Card

UFC 290 & 291

Calling all UFC-heads, there are two big UFC fights you’ll need to grapple into your calendar: UFC 290 and UFC 291.

UFC 290: Between Alexander Volkanovski “The Great” and Yair Rodriguez “El Pantera” (The Panther), Volkanovski will be defending his Featherweight title against the 5’ 11” interim champion and The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America featherweight winner.

UFC 291: Watch as Mexico’s Bradon Moreno puts his title on the line against the formidable No.2-ranked contender, Alexandre Pantoja from Brazil. Both fighters have demonstrated sheer grit with Moreno’s dominant win over former champion Deiveson Figueiredo and not to mention Pantoja’s impressive wins including a first-round submission over Alex Perez.

Also on the card is the welterweight bout between Perth’s very own Jack Della Maddalena and Josiah Harrell. We’re eager to get behind Maddalena and see Perth make it a memorable appearance in the UFC world.

Don’t miss out on the action. Join the excitement at Varsity Innaloo, where we will be screening it all. Enjoy brekkie burgers from 8am and grab a morning bev from 10am. All other Varsity venues will be open from 9am, serving up our full menu and breakfast beers to accompany the thrilling fights. Now that’s what we call a Sunday sesh!

Race to the top 8

AFL

Eagles show they at least have a heartbeat after only narrowly losing to the Saints by 8 points. This comes after the Eagles hit rock bottom with their 130 loss to Swans where Swans amassed an eye watering 205 points.

For Dockers, it looks like Nat Fyfe is likely to be out injured for the rest of the season. It’s a bitter blow for Freo who are one game and percentage outside of the AFL’s top eight.

Port Adelaide and Collingwood continue to maintain their strong positions at the top. However, with more games yet to be played, the outcome remains uncertain. Make sure not to miss the thrilling matches leading up to the Finals. Join us at Varsity to catch all the action live!

The Ashes: Aussie-England Rivalry

It turns out Varsity aren’t the only ones serving up beef this Ashes, the Aussie-England rivalry is cookin’ up tension between the two teams after a controversial wicket saw the usually very conservative fans at Lords booed the Aussies off the pitch – an unheard of event!

So, what actually happened?

With England 5-193 in pursuit of 371 for victory, Jonny Bairstow (10) walked out of his crease almost immediately after ducking the last ball of a Cameron Green over. Alex Carey threw the ball back at the stumps and stumped the star England batter, prompting immediate fury from both the Lord’s crowd and home team. What followed has been global chaos, dividing the cricket world on whether the Aussie’s win is deserved.

What’s done is done and with the Aussies now sitting on a 2-0 series lead, England are looking for a miracle to give them a fighting chance at taking home the Ashes.

r of his generation – City had all of their ducks in a row, and delivered a quality match.

Hungry for more?

More sports!

For those sports fanatics who are hungry for even more sports, brace yourself for the Tour De France and Wimbledon this July, 2023.

Dubbed one of the toughest endurance races in the history of sports, Tour de France will be running throughout July with 12 Aussie riders (the most Aussies to enter the race since 2012) heading to the hilly terrain of Bilbao. There’s the young Perth boy Ben O’Connor who’s competing in the race, who’s aiming for top 10, having just delivered a third place at the Critérium du Dauphiné.

Between 3 July – 16 July the Wimbledon championships are in full force. Already Wimbledon is proving to be an action-packed season. Great Britain’s Daniel Evans is already knocked out in the first round of All England Club for a second year in a row, Nick Kyrgios withdraws due to a wrist injury and Kate Middleton sports a Balmain blazer for her first day at Wimbledon – it’s all happening!
